HISAYASU TAKASHIO

SEPTEMBER 14 - OCTOBER 27, 2024

Figureworks is pleased to present two multi-media artists,

Fred Hatt and Hisayasu Takashio. These Brooklyn-based artists explore several mediums from drawing and sculpture to film and performance. For this exhibition, their precision executing the human form is highlighted in Fred's life drawings and Takashio's sculpture.

Fred Hatt holds a BFA in Film, but as an artist, he is self-taught. He says of this body of work, "In a decades-long practice of drawing from life, I have always preferred to work on black or mid-tone paper. My way of looking focuses on light and its qualities, including shadows, hue, and motion. My way of drawing focuses on the energy in making the marks. On a dark ground, I paint with light to reveal form and to capture the particular presence of a model."

Hisayasu Takashio received a BA in Fine Arts from the Design School of Tokyo and later a Fine Arts certificate in Sculpture and Printmaking from the Art Students League of New York. In this series of wall-relief sculpture, Takashio has carved intricate human fingers and placed them on a rich velvet ground. He says of his work, "I work extensively on the subject of the human hands. My renderings of these are a combined symphony of nature and human anatomy."

These artists have collaborated on numerous multi-media exhibitions, including Cilla Vee Life Arts performance in NYC last summer entitled Raw (Material): Re-Wilding the Body.
